The Beauty of Fake Twits

I've been using it for a while, but I still don't get Twitter. It's like a comment list from a boring blog mixed with a MSN messenger conversation between a pedophile pretending to be a 12-year old girl in her underwear chatting with an undercover RCMP officer pretending to be a pedophile, combined with a New Year's Party where everyone is drunk and just talks at one another.

The best part about is Fake Twits - anyone can create an account in anyone else's name, add a photo and pretend to be that person.

@petermansbridge is a standout:

So is @etalkben who claims to be Ben Mulroney. The sad thing is that if you just read the posts, you couldn't really guess that it might not be the real Ben Mulroney... or is it?

There was a great Annie Mroczkowski twitter, but it looks like it has been deactivated. No doubt there will be some kind of backlash against fake twits, and there will be some verification process and all the fun will be sucked out of Twitter and we will be left with people posting about what their cat did this morning or entreaties to have a positive day.

Greg, Twitter is a great resource for building your personal learning network... if that's your thing. I use it to keep up with educational technology and articles about language / teaching / learning. @livesofteachers
