One of the big changes when you turn 30 (besides, in my case, the dramatic hair loss) is that the phrase 'a while ago' can mean up to 10 years ago. When you're 20 that phrase can mean last month or maybe even last year, but you wouldn't use to talk about something that happened when you were 10.
I used that phrase to talk about a movie that my lovely wife and I were watching on TV and it look a moment for me to realize that I was talking about a movie that came out in 1997. This point was further re-enforced driving to work today in recently purchased vehicle (well, technically the bank owns it and just allows me to drive it) when I heard, on four different radio stations, seven songs, none of them released past 1994 (Two of them were from Stone Temple Pilot's Core album and one was the great 'It Takes Two To Make A Thing Go Right' which had me pining for the simpler days of hip hop and also testing my new car's bass levels) and all of which if you played for a twenty-year old he would more than likely turn up his pierced nose and describe them as 'old'.
If you follow this line of thought, there will come a day when Pearl Jam and NIN are played on Golden Oldie stations and our kids will hate it as much as we hate the crap our parents listened to. Ah, the circle of life.
